Market House on the Square Hosts Oktoberfest

The Saturday Sept. 29 event will feature live music, delicious food and a very special "German Margarita".

Break out your lederhosen and beer steins – it’s Oktoberfest once again! The Market House on the Square is hosting their first annual Oktoberfest on Saturday Sept. 29 night. The event will feature a mixture of delicious food whipped up by the restaurant’s world class chef, Dominic Zumpano, a “German Margarita” and local bands – including a Who cover band.

Mark Wescott, owner of The Market House, said the event aims to bring the community together, and will hopefully be the first of many Oktoberfests to come.

“It’s friends playing for friends,” Wescott said. “The Market House is all about being a neighborhood restaurant and this really is an extension of that. It’s community members that are into playing music for their family and friends.”

Wescott was inspired to partner with local bands – including a couple from the School of Rock in Highwood – after searching for a venue closer to home for his own band to play.

“I’m part of a band and we have always been looking for venues closer to home,” he said. “We were looking for a venue at the same time that I was working on a way to say thanks [to the guests and patrons of the Market House]. It occurred to me that an Oktoberfest would be perfect.”

Wescott noted that the street will be closed for the event, and the City of Lake Forest local government was “great to work with”.

“Now I’m just praying for good weather!” he joked.

The Market House on the Square Oktoberfest will be outside on South Gate Street in Lake Forest, from 6:30 – 11 p.m. on Sept. 29. Live music will be provided by Highwood’s School of Rock and eclectic cover band “See Alice”.
