Union and Board to Meet Thursday Afternoon

Both sides agree to meet on Day 2 of the Lake Forest High School Strike

The Teacher's Union and School Board will be meeting today at the West Campus at 2 p.m. to continue

"The Board is pleased that the Union has agreed to meet with us," said School Board President Sharon Golan.

"After waiting for more than 39 hours to hear the Board's response to our last offer, the LFEA looks foward to substantial negotiations at 2 p.m. today. We will continue to work toward a Fair and Equitable Contract Agreement," said Tom Gigiano, lead negotiator of the Lake Forest Education Association, via a statement on the Lake Forest Teacher website.

The strike began on Sept. 12 after the Union and the Board concerning the teacher's contracts.

I ask all parties involved to make sure they remember to think about what is good for the kids. This not just about the teachers and the board.

I'm sure calling them FLEA was a Freudian typo but appropriate nonetheless since the Union is nothing more than a parasite.

This is also about the TAXPAYERS. I am a parent and I want my kids to have a great education, but I don't want to leave them bankrupt to pay for it.

Can someone grab the key and lock the door?

Oops, sorry about the typo! I've corrected it.

Taxes are not raised under either side's proposals.
LFParent September 13, 2012 at 08:57 PM
I would like to see my property taxes reduced since the value of my home is down dramatically. Many of us have encountered wage freezes, salary reductions, unemployment, higher health insurance costs, etc. The property tax should reflect the current economic reality that most of us in the private sector are struggling and we cannot afford to offer raises to taxpayer funded employees. The City of Lake Forest has had to reduce it's staff and lower costs....so should the school district.

My advice to the board is to withdraw the fat cat proposals. Take it or leave it teachers so we can get rid of you and get folks willing to work for your current pay!
Maximus September 14, 2012 at 03:16 AM
Amen!
Maximus September 14, 2012 at 03:18 AM
My Amen is to the appeal of the LF Parent NOT to any of the negativity ignoring what is best for the students.

At what point can the Board fire tge striking teachers and reopen the school? Surely as Educators the whole point is to Educate. What an appalling example the teachers are setting, and these are the people we are paying to set a good example. Their message seems to be "Screw the kids, We Want More"

If the LFHS teachers are so concerned about respect, how do they think their unrealistic demands look to their students who see City of Chicago teachers who have 41 kids in a classroom. not enough books and teach in classrooms without air conditioning? Teachers, your students are watching you set a bad example. You are teaching them while you are striking too. Parents, while the teachers strike, be sure your kids read the newspaper and learn what is going on in this state with the teachers' unions.
